Do I need to file US taxes if I live in Japan?
Yes, US citizens and green card holders must file US tax returns regardless of where they live. However, provisions like FEIE and FTC can significantly reduce or eliminate your US tax liability.
What is the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion (FEIE)?
FEIE allows qualifying US expats to exclude up to $130,000 (2025) of foreign earned income from US taxation. You must meet either the Physical Presence Test or Bona Fide Residence Test.
Can I claim both FEIE and Foreign Tax Credit?
You can use FTC on income not excluded by FEIE. Our team will optimize your filing to minimize your total tax liability using the best combination of available provisions.
What documents do I need to file?
